Congratulations to the Today Show team! According to Nielsen research, Today has been the most popular morning show for 700 consecutive weeks. That’s quite a winning streak. It started in December of 1995 when Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric were the hosts and has continued through the current reign of Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira.

As one of the five to six million people who wake up with Matt, Meredith, Ann Curry and Al Roker each weekday, I’m thrilled to know I’m in the majority. If nothing else, it’s good to have the odds on my side when I ask someone at work, “Hey, did you see that piece on the Today Show this morning?” The answer is often, “Yes.” For me, Today is the ideal combination of solid broadcast journalism and light-hearted fun. Matt, Meredith, Ann and Al are able to bounce between the tough stories and the silly segments with aplomb.
