What’s Your Favorite Meryl Movie?

Happy Monday! Did you have a good holiday? Did you enjoy a few days of relaxation that may or may not have resulted in egregious overeating? Were there moments of joy/bewilderment/good cheer/merriment that ultimately morphed into anxiety & fatigue & general exhaustion that were perhaps remedied by long walks or departures to places like “the store” or “to the movies”? And now are you ready to celebrate New Year’s? In fact, in a few days we’re going to poll you about this  past year in general, as in, was 2009 a good year for you or can you hardly wait to kick in 2010…but that poll comes later. In the meantime — how about the fact that the People’s Choice Awards are less than two weeks away! Pretty exciting stuff. In post weekend entertainment news, we have a music obit: beloved singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt passed away at age 45. Even if you’re not familiar with his work, he leaves behind a legion of devoted  fans, among them some pretty significant rock icons who cite his genius as inspiration, among them Madonna, R E M, and Smashing Pumpkins. RIP Vic. In holiday movie news, we saw the single best day in box office history — ever.  All the stuff at your local cineplex brought in $278 million. In the top spot? You’re right. Avatar — with $75 million bucks. Now, if you’re counting, the extremely popular pic has over $212 million to its name. Sherlock Holmes brought in $65 million, and that means that director (and former Mr. Madonna) Guy Ritchie scored his best opening weekend ever. Now, if you took your chipmunks to Chipmunks: the Squeakquel, you contributed to their $50 million dollar haul. Another film that opened nicely is the new romantic comedy It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. This one’s about a lady who gets divorced and who winds up having an affair…with her former hubby. Go figure. But while were talking about this, let’s take a look at the body of work from the fabulous Ms. Streep. Do you have a favorite? Is she America’s greatest actress (if you can think of someone better, let me know)? So here now, a poll — and I’m just taking 4 particularly memorable roles…voice your choice and let us know which of the following is your favorite Meryl Streep movie.

a) Kramer vs. Kramer

b) Sophie’s Choice

c)The Devil Wears Prada

d) Julie & Julia
