It’s Tuesday, and it seems Hollywood (and the world, really) has lost another true gem. Lynn Redgrave, the popular British actress who enjoyed success on both stage and screen has died at age 67 after a long battle with cancer. According to reports, she passed away peacefully at her home in Connecticut with her children by her side. Redgrave was part of a genuine English dynasty — five generations of actors — which include her sister Vanessa, and niece Natasha Richardson (who died tragically last year). She enjoyed a long and illustrious career, and was nominated twice for an Oscar, first for her breakout role in Georgy Girl (1967), and most recently for 1998’s Gods and Monsters (directed by Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon). She was also well known for her work on TV, and earned several Emmy nods. Of course, even more people grew to love her hilarious & eminently likable TV commercials for Weight Watchers — she was one of the very first celebrity TV spokespersons (in fact, many of the celebs endorsing products today could stand to use a bit of her trademark style and self-deprecating wit). In short, she leaves behind three children and an incredible legacy of work, having touched the lives (and funny bones) of millions. So long to a great lady.
