As my fellow colleague and blogger talked about yesterday, I too, am often concerned about my television intake. And to be honest, it goes beyond just television to my consumption of all things pop culture related. I watch a lot of TV, I go to a lot of movies and I read A LOT of entertainment websites. I mean it verges on frightening that my biggest fear about possibly meeting celebrities is accidentally blurting our personal information I know about them, not because they’ve shared it with me but because I’ve read it in some magazine or on some website. However, if not for revealing how much I already know about her, I’m positive that upon meeting, Julia Roberts and I would hit it off and become instant pals. That’s totally normal, right??
Well maybe not normal…but it’s fun to imagine. And I take comfort in knowing that I’m not alone. In fact, my roommate and I have had several conversations about celebrities we think would probably be our friends (if we actually ever met them.) It’s quite a fun game actually. There are several variations of this game and to keep it challenging, we usually restrict it to our top 5. I mean I consider myself a pretty gregarious person but even so, I can’t be friends with everyone. Some of the ways to change it up are to choose TV characters instead of actual people or the top 5 celebrities that you would like to be your boyfriend (or girlfriend) or celebs you’d like to be stranded on a desert island with….you get the idea.
I’ve obviously given a few of these lists some thought and while my lists do shift from time to time, I thought I’d share the top 5 TV characters that would likely be my boyfriend if they actually existed.
The hands down, number one, absolute top pick is Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) from Friday Night Lights. Most women would probably choose Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) but not me. I immediately fell for the shy and awkward sweetness of QB1 in the very first episode and that love remained strong through the conclusion of the series (and to this day).
Second would be Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) from Friends. Aside from Friends being my all time favorite show, I’ve always had a special affection for Chandler. He makes corny jokes (for which I’m a total sucker). And really, could he be a better a husband to Monica??
Third up would be Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) from Dawson’s Creek. If you ask me (and most of America), the title character of that show took a total backseat to charismatic charm of Pacey Witter…it’s no wonder the reformed “bad boy” won Joey Potter’s heart.
The number four slot goes to none other than teen heartthrob Zack Morris (Mark Paul Gosselaar) from Saved By The Bell. I mean clearly I could never compete with Kelly Kapowski but boy would I like to try. The bleached blonde California schemer devoted to his friends, his girl and his school was the whole package (who I occasionally still catch at 7:30am on TBS).
And rounding out my top five is Mark Cyr (Jason Ritter) from Parenthood. Much like Saracen, his kind-hearted nature with a hint of lovable awkwardness warms my heart with every scene he is in.
So now that I’ve revealed far too much about my personal hobbies and tastes, I turn it over to you to share some of yours. In today’s featured poll, tell us which of these four ladies would you most like to hang out with?
