Get Me Beyonce’d

When Beyonce‘s in town, you can feel it. Traffic’s bad? “Beyonce traffic!” Helicopter overhead? “Probably Beyonce flying in for her shows!” Can’t get a reservation? “Blame it on Beyonce!” This was the conversation heard all weekend in and around Atlantic City, the gambling center of the east coast that’s now more synonymous with punch lines and eye rolls than our west coast counterpart.  But those who frequent it, love it and those who refrain are missing out. Especially now with the addition of Revel, a brand new $2.6 billion hotel and casino that made its grand entrance onto the famed AC boardwalk by hosting the incomparable Bey for four magical nights over Memorial Day Weekend. And boy did they get their money’s worth.

Performing for the first time since giving birth to daughter Blue Ivy, Beyonce unveiled her killer body and seemingly godlike pipes to sold out crowds of 5500 enthralled fans each night. She belted and shimmied for nearly 2 hours straight, never losing her steps and somehow gaining more momentum in her voice with each passing hit. And boy were there hits.

“Love on Top” began the 25+ song set and got the crowd to their feet right off the bat.  “Get Me Bodied” and “Diva” soon followed, with Sasha Fierce taking center stage. One costume change and one very sexy video later, she showed the whole world who’s boss with “Naughty Boy” and “Jumpin’ Jumpin'”, a throwback Destiny’s Child hit.  Slowing it down a bit, and introducing the audience to her vulnerable side, “Flaws and All”, “1+1” and “Resentment” completely enraptured the crowed, while a chill-inducing tribute to Whitney Houston led her rendition of “I will Always Love You” into the seamlessly appropriate, “Halo”.  And what would a Beyonce concert be without “Single Ladies”? Her most famous track closed the show and brought. the. house. down. Her all-female band and consortium of leggy backup dances contributed to a (girl) power-heavy night to be remembered.

And who else was on hand to toast the return of Queen B? The shows drew the likes of hubby Jay-Z (of course), Kim Kardashian, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, DC members Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland and wouldntchaknow, even a visit from The First Lady herself, Michelle Obama with daughters Sasha and Malia in tow.

While its true that every performer from Eric Clapton to Lady Gaga have graced the Atlantic City boards with their presence, it’s different when Beyonce’s in town– you can feel it.

Now it’s time to voice your choice and tell us which of Beyonce’s upbeat hits is your favorite!
