Michael J. Fox’s aptly titled new NBC comedy, The Michael J. Fox Show, premieres tonight, and in honor of the actor’s latest venture, we thought we’d in indulge in a little throwback Thursday action by reminiscing about our favorite MJF moments. Here, the essential Michael J. Fox roles in pop culture canon (in no particular order):

Family Ties It’s the show that made Michael J. Fox a household name, not to mention the obsession of many teenage girls around the country. Alex P. Keaton was a right wing-leaning, sweater vest-wearing, Nixon-adoring child of the 80s — and we loved him for it.

Back to the Future Even nearly 30 years after its theatrical debut, Back to the Future (and its two sequels) boasts a brilliant concept, solid cast and endearingly portrayed relationship between Marty (Fox) and Doc (Christoper Lloyd). It’s no wonder both Fox and the film picked up awards at the People’s Choice Awards.

Spin City Fox teamed up with Family Ties creator Gary David Goldberg for another TV series — this time centered around the world of the New York City mayor’s office alongside Connie Britton, Richard Kind and Heather Locklear. During the series run, Fox found out he had Parkinson’s Disease, and at the end of the fourth season, he bowed out to spend more time with his family and help support fundraising efforts for Parkinson’s research.

Teen Wolf Before the edgy, sexy MTV series, there was the 1985 comedic film starring Michael J. Fox as Scott Howard, an ordinary high school kid who morphs into — what else? — a wolf, and winds up becoming the star of the basketball team and getting the girl of his dreams.

The Secret of My Success What’s a Michael J. Fox best-of list without one of his cheesy classics from the 80s? There are plenty to choose from, but this 1987 film, in which Fox plays a down-on-his-luck mail clerk who impersonates a business exec to get a job (and a girl), holds a special place in our hearts.

How about you? What’s your favorite Michael J. Fox movie or series?
