On last night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, lady of the hour Miley Cyrus stopped by to promote her new album, Bangerz, and perform an acoustic rendition of her single “We Can’t Stop” with The Roots and Fallon himself.

The acoustic session comes on the heels of not only another more subdued performance on Saturday Night Live, but some criticism about her artistic integrity as well. “I just thought all of it was terrible. Outfit, terrible. Dancing, terrible. Singing, average. Performance, terrible,” said Cher, about Miley’s VMA performance, during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning. (Cher later said she shouldn’t have critiqued the performance.)

Cher isn’t the only artist to speak out about Miley though. Sinead O’ Conner also penned a scathing open letter to the star in which she claimed Miley was “obscuring her talent” and exploiting herself.

For her performance on Fallon, Miley didn’t display her signature tongue or twerk. Instead, she kept the focus on firmly her vocals. Was she trying to send a message to her haters? Or are we just “overthinking” it? Watch the video below and tell us what you think.

What’s your take? Is Cyrus trying to speak out against her haters?
