Sure, we had a pretty epic VMAs this year, but our friends across the pond weren’t about to let us have all the fun. Last night Amsterdam hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards and between Miley, Katy and Ron Burgundy (yes!), there’s a whole lot to talk about this morning. Take a look at the 4 need-to-know moments from last night’s show:
Katy Perry soars to great heights. In a rousing rendition of “Unconditionally,” Perry channeled Cirque du Soleil as she was lifted above the stage and as her dancers wove a pattern with her multicolored robe. In the end, she revealed herself covered in sparkles. A big disco ball? We think she looked like a prism, a clever nod to her new album of the same name.
Ron Burgundy explores Amsterdam. Though the show was hosted by LMFAO’s Redfoo, Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy appeared throughout the night to flirt with Perry, present Cyrus with Best Video and take a tour of the host city in the Netherlands. He first thinks he’s in Australia, then he’s joined by Daft Punk and then…well, you should probably just see for yourself.
Eminem shows off his love for Anchorman. Speaking of Burgundy, when Ferrell caught up with Global Icon winner Eminem, the rapper thanked his fans and MTV for their support before deadpanning, “I love award,” a tip of the hat to Steve Carrell’s Anchorman character. (Note: This video has some NSFW language.)
Miley Cyrus pares down for “Wrecking Ball.” Compared to her “We Can’t Stop” show opener, Cyrus kept things simple for her rendition of “Wrecking Ball,” which featured the pop star on her own in front of a giant projection of her tearful self. If you didn’t think she had musicals chops before, you’ll definitely stand corrected after seeing this one.
