AMAs 2013: 5 Outrageous, Must-See Moments!

Did you happen to see the American Music Awards last night? They were absolutely bananas. Don’t feel left out, take part in all the Monday morning water cooler chit chat after reading about these five outrageous must-see moments from last night’s show!

1. Miley Cyrus sings “Wrecking Ball” in front of a giant, lip-syncing kitten.

7. That’s how many nightmares I had last night involving that sorrowful, singing kitten. We’re all in agreement that that kitten was being held against his will, right? Look at those eyes! They’re practically screaming, “Meow me” — which is kitten talk for “Help me!” Creepy, yet spectacularly sounding, performance.

2. Lady Gaga arrives on a giant horse made out of people.

The always provocative Lady Gaga upped the red carpet ante by arriving to the AMAs on a giant white horse operated by two people.  If you’re wondering what a giant performance art horse made out of human beings eats, my first guess would not be subtlety.

3. Draped in geisha-inspired clothing, Katy Perry performs “Unconditionally.”

Perry is quickly becoming a favorite in the ultra competitive awards show performance scene. This visually stunning version of Perry’s new hit single featured a couple of background dancers taking flight along with enough confetti to light Las Vegas for an entire week — if confetti had any practical electrical use of course.

4. Ariana Grande wins “Favorite New Artist” award; razzles and dazzles.

It was a big night for burgeoning superstar Ariana Grande as the Nickelodeon star drew favorable comparisons to Mariah Carey with her soulful rendition of her single “Tattooed Heart.” Her stunning performance was rewarded with a standing ovation from her contemporaries. Yet another victory for the AMA’s favorite new artist.

5. Lady Gaga and President R. Kelly perform “Do What U Want.”

Live from New York, it’s still Saturday night? Lady Gaga and R. Kelly combined their creative efforts to perform a half sketch comedy, half musical and 100% entertaining version of “Do What You Want.” An outstanding theatrical performance for sure, but I’m pretty pumped to hear more about President Kelly’s new affordable health care act: Kelly Kare.
