2014 SAG Awards Nominations: 5 Biggest Surprises

Couch potatoes get ready to sprout some opinions! The 2014 SAG Award nominations have been announced complete with the usual array of pop culture snubs and surprises. Breaking Bad led the television field with four nominations while ensemble comedies Modern Family and 30 Rock came away with three apiece. Check out the list below to see the 5 biggest surprises from today’s nominations.

1. No love for Golden Globe co-host Amy Poeher?

We can somewhat understand Parks and Recreation’s omission from an extremely deep Best Comedy Ensemble category, but Amy Poehler’s exclusion from the Outstanding Female Performance in a Comedy Series list is a flat out crime against sunshine, joy and most importantly laughter.

2. Girls, Parks and Recreation and Community’s Best Comedy Ensemble snubs are no laughing matter.

Led by comedic stalwart Modern Family, the nominees for television’s Best Comedy Ensemble include previously nominated Emmy favorites 30 Rock, Big Bang Theory and Veep. Returning hero Arrested Development rounds out the nominees and unlike Gob, we’re COMPLETELY on board with the inclusion of the dysfunctional Bluth family.

Troy and Abed however received nooooo love.

3. 7 different characters, 0 nominations: The Tatiana Maslany story.

Maybe if Maslany doubled her Orphan Black character count to 14, the guild would start to take notice.

4. A potential Scandal averted.

Kerry Washington’s well deserved Outstanding Female Performance in a Dramatic Series nomination is certainly no surprise, but her shocking omission last year had us worried that history could repeat itself.

5. Man Men elevated to IRATE Men.

For the first time ever, Mad Men finds itself without an invitation to the Best Drama Ensemble party. The Best Drama Ensemble award will go to Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones or Homeland. If I had a farm, I’d bet it on Breaking Bad walking away with the win. My advice to the other nominees? Tread lightly.
