In case you hadn’t heard (but really, how have you not?!), we’re just a couple weeks away from the 2014 annual People’s Choice Awards. In other words, prepare yourself for a night of amazing performances, wins that will make you jump off your couch, acceptance speeches that you won’t want to fast forward through, and of course, dresses, so.many.amazing.dresses.
From Joan Collins’ over-the-top black ensemble from the 1983 show to Jessica Alba’s sultry Antonio Berardi dress at the 2010 event, the People’s Choice Awards’ stage has played host to many major fashion moments through the years. So to mark the 40th anniversary of the telecast, I sat down with fashion expert Tim Gunn to take a back look at some of the style trends that have popped up time and time again on the red carpet. Watch the video below to see Tim Gunn reveal which trends are timeless (and which ones should probably stay in the ’80s,) and also to see stars from different decades in very similar looks (yes, we’ve heard it before, but this video truly proves the age-old “what’s old is new” ssaying). Since the People’s Choice Awards are all about the fans, Tim Gunn has style tips for you too. Check out the video to find out how you can easily add some of the great trends you’ve seen on our red carpet through the years to your own closet, and for pro-tips on dress shopping for the holidays (we’re here for you, ladies).
Like I said, great tips right? Of course, after chatting with Tim Gunn, I started thinking about what I should wear to the upcoming show. Seeing as how I’m a People’s Choice Awards newbie — yes, this is my first year! — I was pretty worried about putting together the perfect look. So, when Tim Gunn graciously offered to help me get red carpet ready, I jumped, leaped and bounded toward the offer. Oh, and I also listened to everything he had to say. I mean everything. From working on my hair, to making sure I have great skin for show day, watch the video below to see the first step in my road to the red carpet, and stay tuned to peopleschoice.com in the coming weeks for more Tim Gunn style tips how-to videos.
