‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ or ‘Home Alone’? What’s Your Favorite Holiday Movie? — DISCUSS

You can tell a lot about a person based on their favorite holiday movie. Home Alone, Elf, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? That means they’re a fan of good-natured hijinks and probably hang out on the sillier side of the street. Die Hard? That’s an individual of decisive action, and although I have no evidence to back this up, I feel as though they work in finance. Love Actually, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story? Those are reserved for the dreamers; the optimist who’s looking for a fellow hopeless romantic to co-star in their own personal love story. There’s no wrong answer when it comes to your favorite holiday movie.

Except that there is very much a wrong answer when it comes to your favorite holiday movie. All of those movies are fine, great even. Dare I say classics! But despite their cinematic charms and widespread appeal, they all possess one irrefutable flaw that will prevent them from earning the distinction of best holiday movie: They’re not It’s a Wonderful Life. Nothing truly encapsulates the Christmas spirit more than everyman George Bailey running through the streets of Bedford Falls as he realizes that truth wealth isn’t measured by dollars and cents. Do we need a spoiler alert for 67-year-old movie? I say we don’t.

If you’re looking for a yearly, heartwarming reminder that despite the trials and tribulations we endure on a daily basis it really is a wonderful life, I can think of no greater movie then Home Alone.

Just kidding. Watch It’s a Wonderful Life you knuckleheads! Happy holidays!

What’s your favorite holiday movie? Do you have any cinematic holiday traditions? Tell us all about it in the comments!
