As we bid a fond farewell to our cinematic friends of 2013 we look ahead with anticipatory delight to the unwatched movies of 2014. Goodbye, Man of Steel. See you on Netflix, Oz: The Great and Powerful. We look forward to our paths crossing again near a discount bargain bin, After Earth. By all indications 2014 is going to be a phenomenal year at the movie theater, so grab the popcorn, we’ll bring the Junior Mints, and we’ll meet you at the theater. Here are five movies we’re excited to watch in 2014!

1. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1

Hunger Games

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone

The only downside to Mockingjay is that we have to wait until November to see it. Can someone please sneak a clause into Jennifer Lawrence’s contract that states she’s legally obligated to shoot a new film every month?

Anticipated release: November 21st

2. Interstellar

Starring: Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine

Christopher Nolan’s proven track record at the box office instantly catapults any movie he’s involved with into “must see” territory.

Anticipated release: November 7th

3. Gone Girl

Starring: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Casey Wilson

This mystery-thriller based on the popular Gillian Flynn novel of the same name not only boasts an all star cast and stellar source material, but also just so happens to be directed by cinematic virtuoso David Fincher.

Anticipated release: October 3rd

4. Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars

Starring: The cast of the television series Veronica Mars

We’re eagerly anticipating the return of our favorite former teenage private eye as she’s called back into active sleuthing duty when her former bad boy beau Logan Echolls is (once again) accused of murder.

Anticipated release: March 14th

5. Guardians of the Galaxy

We already adore Chris Pratt as a comedic superman on Parks and Recreation, so we can’t wait to watch Pratt’s evolution into big screen superhero in one of the most anticipated films of the summer.

Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Batista, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel

Anticipated release: August 1st
