Television history was made last night as Jimmy Fallon joined the ranks of late night royalty by becoming the sixth host of the legendary Tonight Show. If Fallon’s first episode is any indication, the future of the iconic late night staple is in very capable hands. The host didn’t attempt to hide his genuine excitement amidst the stress that comes with the territory of ascending the  The Tonight Show throne.

The always endearing Fallon showed great poise during his introductory monologue as he sincerely stated his heartfelt mission statement for The Tonight Show. “My goal is just to make you laugh, and put a smile on your face so that you go to sleep with a smile on your face and live a longer life.”

Fallon, who’s as demonstrative as it gets in the world of late night talk show hosts, displayed genuine emotion when recounting the excitement he felt as a child watching Johnny Carson. “To think, there’s gonna be a kid out there asking their parents to stay up to watch me, it just means a lot to me.”

Fallon’s first official Tonight Show desk piece was a certainly a star-studded affair. After Fallon mentioned a certain friend owed him a $100 after wagering that Fallon would never host The Tonight Show, a trove of celebrities including Tina Fey, Robert DeNiro, Sarah Jessica Parker, Seth Rogen, and the always demure Lady Gaga dropped by to pay off their debt.
