Seth Meyers’ Best ‘Weekend Update’ Moments

Seth Meyers will officially take the reigns of NBC’s Late Night on Monday (Feb. 24), marking an end to his tenure as head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor on Saturday Night Live.

But before the SNL funnyman takes over hosting duties from fellow SNL alum Jimmy Fallon, let’s take a look back at Meyers’ three best Weekend Update moments.

3. “The Palin Rap”

Meyers was the brains behind several classic sketches, including “History of Punk,” which starred Fred Armisen as a punk-rock frontman who hated everything about the world but had a peculiar soft spot for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

He also wrote the infamous Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton sketch (starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) that thrust SNL into the spotlight during the 2008 Presidential campaign.

When the real Sarah Palin made an appearance on the show, Meyers helped write “The Palin Rap,” which appeared as a segment during that night’s Weekend Update.

2. “Really!?!”

This Weekend Update franchise, starring Meyers and a variety of other Update anchors, was a hilarious take on the week’s absurdities in the news. The segment poked fun at everyone and everything that made headlines for mostly ridiculous reasons.

1. Seth and “City Correspondent” Stefon

Weekend Update fans loved the recurring bit with “City Correspondent” Stefon (played by Bill Hader). Meyers would ask Stefon for everyday tourist info about where the best parks, restaurants, and attractions in the city are for families. Stefon would then describe NYC’s hottest new club with an innuendo-laden name that would surely be the last place you would ever take your family. Check out one of the funniest and most popular moments from the segment below.
