“The Vampire Diaries” may be full of twists, but this is one we definitely didn’t see coming.

L.J. Smith — who was hired by Alloy Entertainment to pen the book series before being replaced by a ghostwriter three years ago — is publishing fan fiction about the saga on Amazon, The Wall Street Journal reports.

“I wanted to finish the story,” Smith told WSJ. “So many people still wrote to me constantly saying, can you just tell me how it ends?”

Though the book series is still on-going (albeit under the guidance of another writer), Smith’s fan fiction makes it possible for readers to see how she would have unfolded events.

What do you think about the decision? Will you read Smith’s fan fiction on Amazon? Or are you content with how the novels are moving forward? Do you prefer the books or the TV adaptation?
