You’re not the only one who was caught off guard by the success of Sharknado 2: The Second One.
Even the sequel’s star Ian Ziering didn’t expect the follow-up to be a hit. In fact, Ziering didn’t even expect the movie to be made.
“Major motion picture studios spend millions and millions of dollars hoping that they’ve stumbled on to the formula, and, when they do, achieving that success again with a sequel, it’s very difficult,” Ziering told PeoplesChoice.com about the film, which is even getting a one-night only showing in theaters and possibly a perfume too. “I honestly didn’t think this movie would see the light of day.”
Not only did the follow-up to the shark ridden tornado flick see the light of day, it ended up grabbing 3.9 million viewers, making it the biggest TV movie ever.
Ziering told PeoplesChoice.com that starring in the TV movie required him to put a whole lot of trust in director Anthony C. Ferrante.
“There’s a lot of trust involve because when [the director] is saying do ridiculous things, you just pray the visual effects editors will make it a substantiated movement,” said Ziering.
Though Zering’s current claim to fame is Sharknado, we couldn’t help but ask the actor whether or not he still gets approached by fans of the series that launched his career — 90210.
“I’m very lucky. I’ve been apart of some projects that have really resonated with the public here, not just in the United States, but all around the world,” said Ziering. “It’s very flattering when someone comes up [and says], ‘Hey what’s happening, man? 90210 is my favorite show.’ Well, it’s my favorite show too.”
