Are we witnessing the next generation of George Clooney-inspired pranksters?
Tom Felton and Rupert Grint, who famously portrayed Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise, may be on-screen rivals but they’re off-screen friends.
Grint, making his Broadway debut starring alongside Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in Terrence McNally’s It’s Only a Play, was the victim of a good-natured prank perpetrated by the former antagonistic Harry Potter bully. Felton recently surprised his friend by waiting outside the stage door at Grint’s Broadway show and disguising himself as a rabid Harry Potter fan named Bob.
We award Felton a B+ for ingenuity but a C- in naming his clandestine alter ego.
Cleverly disguised in a long black wig, ski hat, and glasses, Felton reportedly pestered his pal for a picture before his clever ruse was exposed.
“Tom was in a disguise to pull a prank on Rupert,” a friend of the duo told The Mirror. “The pair have a long history of playing pranks on each other on the set and off. Eventually, Tom revealed himself to Rupert. It was hilarious.”
This isn’t the first time the former co-stars engaged in some friendly escapades. Grint memorably wore an “I Heart Tom Felton” t-shirt to the Rise of the Planet Apes red carpet, while Felton reportedly donned an “I Heart Ron Weasley” shirt to another event.
This post was updated on 5/5/17 with a video from Tom Felton Meets the Superfans that shows the actor preparing to prank Rupert.
