What’s it like to sail the sea with New Kids on the Block and 3,000 of their “wildest and most adoring” fans? We’re about to find out.
A new reality series featuring Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood, and Jordan and Jonathan Knight, collectively known as the boy band sensation New Kids on the Block, will premiere early next year on the rebranded TV Guide Network (which will be called POP). The eight-episode series follows the famed pop group as they embark upon on a five-day cruise from New York City to Bermuda along with 3,000 of their most passionate Blockheads.
Blockheads is, of course, the affectionate nickname given to New Kids on the Block fanatics and not a Charlie Brown related insult.
“3,000 fans, 20 cameras. That equals a whole lot of potential chaos,” Donnie Wahlberg says in the promotional video for the upcoming series.
The influential boy band enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame in the ’80s and ’90s with hit singles like “Step By Step” and “You Got It.” The immense popularity of the annual cruise, which tends to have wait lists in the thousands, proves that the searing NKOTB fandom has not been cooled by time.
