Would The Fast and the Furious franchise still be a successful juggernaut without Michelle Rodriguez?
The actress recently told The Daily Beast that she almost quit the popular action series over a plot point in 2001’s The Fast and the Furious. In an original iteration of the script, Rodriguez’s character was reportedly written into a love triangle between Vin Diesel and Paul Walker’s characters.
“It was more of a Point Break idea,” Rodriguez told The Daily Beast. “They just followed the format without thinking about the reality of it. Is it realistic for a Latin girl who’s with the alpha-est of the alpha males to cheat on him with the cute boy? I had to put my foot down.”
Fortunately for all of the Dom and Letty shippers out there, Rodriguez’s vision for the character prevailed.
“I basically cried and said, I’m going to quit and, ‘Don’t sue me, please — I’m sorry, but I can’t do this in front of millions of people,’” recounted Rodriguez.
And the rest is cinematic history.
