UPDATE 08/05/15: Turns out Community fans have reason to remain hopeful for another season. Joel McHale took to Twitter yesterday (8/4) to say the show hasn’t actually been axed. “Easy sugar-bear, Community is not canceled,” he wrote, with the hashtag

It’s a sad, sad day to be a (Greendale) Human Being.

After five seasons on NBC and one on Yahoo Screen, it looks like the feverishly adored Community has finally been dismissed.

During an interview with Metro Weekly, Community’s very own pied piper of cool, Joel McHale, revealed that the sixth season of the innovative sitcom, which concluded on Yahoo! on June 2, will likely be its last.

“All of our contracts were up after six years,” McHale told Metro Weekly. “All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.”

To say that the cast of Community’s stock has risen significantly may be an understatement.

Gillian Jacobs and Ken Jeong are set to star in their own television projects, while Alison Brie and McHale are burgeoning movie stars.

While Community’s loveable group of misfits may have saved Greendale for the last time in episodic form, McHale still believes there’s hope that the “Six Seasons and a Movie” moniker will come to fruition. The Soup host told Esquire back in June that he believes there will eventually be a Community movie.

“I think what has to happen is that Dan [Harmon, creator] needs to write the script. It’s a tall order for someone. ‘Go write a brilliant movie script on a beloved show that you’ve been writing for six years,”‘ McHale said. “The cast would do it. We would all do it.”

What do you think? Do you want one more season of Community or is it best that the series ends on a high note?
