Though he’s known for soft, brooding, guitar-accompanied ballads, John Mayer doesn’t box himself into listening to one genre of music. In fact, he’s a Miley Cyrus fan — and he wants the world to know it!
As Miley hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live this past weekend, Mayer took to Twitter to publicly praise her newest album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.
Quoting some of Cyrus’ lyrics from the song “Lighter,” Mayer wrote, “This is why I love music. You can be one artist one year and the next discover some crazy light inside yourself and shine it everywhere.”
Much of the inspiration of Miley’s psychedelic pop album, which she put out for free the same night she hosted the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards in August, stems from the loss of her beloved pets.
“This Miley album is amazing. You can’t try to make something like this. You just tap the vein and don’t question a single instinct,” Mayer continued. He finished up his praise parade with calling the project a “masterwork of whack genius.” Check out the entire succession below.
Once Cyrus caught wind of Mayer’s monumental compliments — and by “caught wind” we mean checked her phone — she retweeted him and shared her excitement.
Cyrus performed two singles off Dead Petz on SNL, “Karen Don’t Be Sad” and “The Twinkle Song” and towards the end of the broadcast announced to her Smilers that she would be going on a limited tour across the United States.
Will newfound Smiler John Mayer be in attendance?
