Even when you grow up, you’ll still have to do things like take out the garbage for your parents. Don’t believe us? Just ask the cast of ABC Family’s hit show Pretty Little Liars.

In anticipation of the season 6B premiere, the cast and creator of PLL sat down for a panel at the Paley Center of Media in New York on Sunday (Oct. 11). When People’s Choice caught up with Troian Bellasario, who plays Spencer Hastings, prior to the panel, she described what changes (or rather, lack thereof) fans can expect to see when the show returns with a five-year time jump.

“I guess it didn’t really feel that different, ” said Bellisario of the remainder of the season. “We still had to be called back to Rosewood. I’m still dealing with my parents. So, to be honest, it really didn’t feel that different. I was expecting there to be a bigger change but I think because we had the change in the middle of the year, we couldn’t really do that much. So, it felt the same, in a weird way.”

After finally discovering who “A” was in the season 6A summer finale, the show promised a five-year time lapse to kick off season 6B this January. In the first set photos from the new season, the ladies’ hair and wardrobe is notably more mature — reflecting the fact that their characters have aged. Explaining what it was like to play someone closer to her age, Bellisario said she’s happy with where Spencer’s life is headed.

“I’ve played Spencer for so long and our writers kind of knew what they wanted and where our characters were going. It’s not like I could chop all my hair off and dye it pink, that’s just not Spencer, you know? We knew what our jobs were going to be and where we were going to be living, so a lot of that really influenced our story lines,” she said.

Pretty Little Liars returns to ABC Family, now known as Freeform, on January 12.
