As far as unexpected celebs friendships go, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift pretty much top the list. And yet, the bubbly country-turned-pop star and melancholy crooner have actually hung out on many occasions. In fact, they’ve even performed together.
In a new cover story for Rolling Stone Magazine, The Weeknd opens up about first meeting Swift at Sam Smith’s Grammy after-party earlier this year.
Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesafaye, says Swift complimented him on his 2011 mixtape, House of Balloons, in a way that seemed very “genuine.” Sounds normal enough, right? But then…
“The whole time she was talking, she was kind of like, petting my hair? I think she was just drawn to it,” he says. “And of course I’m not going to be like, ‘Hey, can you stop?’ I mean, it felt good!”
Also, it’s Taylor Swift!
In case you didn’t know, The Weeknd is known for his signature matted dread lock hairdo just as much as he is for his dark yet rapturous voice. Who knows how many people in the industry have had the courage to actually touch his famed hair? Kudos to Swift for being bold enough to make the move.
In the interview, the Canadian star also touches on his connection to Drake, his meteoric rise to success with his latest album, Beauty Behind The Madness, and how he manages to keep his low-key lifestyle. Read Weeknd’s full profile now at Rolling Stone.com.
