How To Get Away With Murder actress Viola Davis may have had a historic win at this year’s Emmys when she took home the award for best actress in a drama, but that doesn’t mean she’s slowing down. In fact, when we caught up with HTGAWM’s Karla Souza on the red carpet for this year’s NAACP Awards, the actress revealed that Davis recently gave her a bit of advice regarding winning awards that Souza has taken to heart.
“She told me the other day, she said, winning an award is like a marriage. [There are] ups and downs, and twists and turns, being okay sometimes, not so okay other times,” Souza told People’s Choice. “She says, an award lasts for a moment, but a career lasts for a lifetime. She talks about how it’s all about the work and being passionate about the work.”
Souza also alluded to the fact that Davis is very motherly on set when it comes to her fellow How To Get Away With Murder co-stars.
“She loves on us all the time,” confessed Souza. “The other day, it was someone’s birthday and she brought them a cake.”
Above all else, Souza couldn’t help but gush over how wonderful she thinks Viola Davis is as a person.
“She’s so fun, and humble and generous,” said Souza of Davis. “She is such a joy to work with and such a powerful, beautiful woman.”
How To Get Away With Murder airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
