Five years after the end of Disney’s Hannah Montana, a now very different Miley Cyrus, is returning to the small screen. Miley’s core fan base however, might have a little trouble recognizing her in her new role. The 23-year-old is set to star in a new Amazon series directed by Woody Allen.
Deadline reports that Allen has chosen Cyrus and Elaine May (The Graduate, Small Time Crooks) to star alongside him for the six half-hour-episode series. The name of the project is still unclear, but the show will take place in the 1960s and begins shooting in March of this year.
Cyrus confirmed her involvement with the new Woody project via Instagram in a fittingly flamboyant post.

I had claimed 2016 to be my year of "chillin the fuck out" but next to my bed for a few years now has been this portrait of W.A. & I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be apart of the cast and work alongside the bad a$$ Elaine May & da dude himself! 1960zzzz here I cummmmm 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

Though Allen has previously worked with May on 2000’s Small Time Crooks, this will be the first time the legendary director works with Cyrus. It’s officially been five years since Miley has been on television. The teen sitcom that first made her famous, Hannah Montana, ran on the Disney Channel from 2006 to 2011.
How do you feel about an all-grown-up Miley’s return to television?
