The cast of The Walking Dead face grisly horrors on a daily basis, but it wasn’t a herd of treacherous walkers that almost led to Lauren Cohan walking off the popular AMC series.

Cohen, who portrays the valiant Maggie Green on the series, revealed on a recent episode of Inside the Actor’s Studio that she wanted to leave the show during a particularly harrowing scene from the third season. Cohen’s character had to perform an emergency C-section on Lori Grimes, which resulted in the birth of baby Judith as well as the death of Lori.

When faced with this distressing situation, Cohen reached out to her on-screen husband, actor Steven Yeun, for advice.

“I knock on Steven’s door, and I said, ‘I have to leave the show. I don’t think I can do it. It affects you so deeply to the core to dive into so much of this material,” Cohen said. And then I realized that’s why I have to do.”

Continued Cohen, “We watch to feel. And to hopefully, honestly portray something. And bad stuff happens, and what’s the point in not getting real about it?”

It’s nice to see that the love and admiration that Glen and Maggie share on The Walking Dead, extends to the off-screen friendship of Lauren and Steven.
