Booth and Bones are headed toward TV retirement.
FOX has renewed Bones for a 12th and final season, TVLine reports. Consisting of 12 episodes, executive producers and showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson said in a joint statement that they are planning on crafting a “rewarding” end to the long-running procedural drama starring David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have another season, so we can give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve,” said Collier and Peterson. “Also knowing there is a Season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible — one we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of Bones.”
According to a Deadline report, Fox chairman Dana Walden had previously stated that Bones would not continue without Boreanaz and Deschanel, but there was reportedly “almost immediate positive feedback from both actors,” which led to an order of a twelfth and final season.
Deschanel took to Twitter to weigh in on the series ending shortly after the news broke.
“As sad as it is to know something you have loved doing for 11 years will be ending, I am so glad we will have the opportunity to end it well,” Deschanel tweeted. “Thank you for the most loyal, dedicated and kind fans in the world! We couldn’t have done any of this without you!”
Boreanaz also took to social media to thank viewers.
“Thank you Fans. Above and Beyond,” Boreanaz wrote.
Even with a truncated twelfth season, Bones, which returns for its season 11 spring premiere on April 14, will conclude after producing an astounding 246 episodes.
“Knowing there is a season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible,” said showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson. “One we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of Bones.”
What do you think? Is this the right time for Bones to end or would you have preferred a thirteenth season?
