Justice League director Zack Snyder recently told NY Daily News that Gustin was never considered for the role because of the tonal difference between the CW’s Flash and the DC Comics Cinematic Universe.
“I just don’t think [Gustin] was a good fit,” Snyder said. “I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where… that [tone is] not our world. Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multi-verse, so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”
Fans of Gustin’s portrayal of the “Crimson Comet” will have to get used to a new speedster under the mask as Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) has been cast to join fellow superheroes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg in the upcoming action thriller.
But don’t feel too bad for Gustin! Even though the actor won’t be teaming up with Superman on the big screen, he will be fighting crime with his cousin when he appears on next Monday’s highly anticipated crossover episode of Supergirl.
Also starring Amber Heard, Amy Adams, and J.K. Simmons, Justice League: Part One hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
