EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Taylor Kinney Is Open To Returning To ‘The Vampire Diaries’

Taylor Kinney may have left the ghost of Uncle Mason behind him when he departed The Vampire Diaries, but he’s certainly not opposed to revisiting his supernatural alter ego.

Though the actor has been keeping busy battling blazes on NBC’s Chicago Fire, he told People’s Choice at An Evening with Dick Wolf at PaleyFest back in March that he would be open to returning to TVD — if only to settle a score with Uncle Mason’s foe on the series, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder).

"I see no reason why I couldn't come back and do my best to kill [Damon]," said Kinney, who won "Favorite Dramatic TV Actor" at People's Choice Awards 2016 for his portrayal of Kelly Severide on Chicago Fire.

Kinney appeared in a total of 10 episodes of The CW vampire drama. He first joined the series in 2010 as Tyler Lockwood's mysterious Uncle Mason, and was killed by Damon shortly after it was discovered that he was actually a werewolf. The character was brought back as a ghost for another short stint in season 3 — this time, working with Damon to defeat the then, new big bad Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

Though Uncle Mason and Damon left off on good terms, Kinney, it seems, isn't quite as forgiving as his character. And who can blame him? After all, Damon did rip Uncle Mason's heart out!

But if Kinney really wants revenge, he'll need to move quick. Somerhalder announced earlier this week that season 8 of The Vampire Diaries will be his last, which means Kinney only has so many episodes to get even.
