While Peter Quill, Drax, and Groot continue to protect the galaxy against a bevy of intergalactic miscreants, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn wouldn’t mind adding a few villains from Fox’s Fantastic Four to make the Guardians job just a little bit more difficult.
Despite the fact that Fox still owns the rights to the characters, Gunn revealed during a recent Facebook chat that he would love if the Fantastic Four became a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does that mean Gunn would be open to The Human Torch or The Thing potentially teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy?
“I probably wouldn’t add Ben Grimm [The Thing] to the Guardians team even if they were a part of the MCU,” Gunn said during the Q&A.
C’mon, James. Just because his name is The Thing doesn’t mean the big guy doesn’t have any feelings. If the stars ever did align and the Fantastic Four franchise became a part of the MCU, Gunn mentioned a few villains he’d love to have at his disposal to pit against Star-Lord and company.
“Of course I would love for the Fantastic Four to be part of the MCU, not only because of the Fantastic Four but because Fox owns so many awesome cosmic villains and minor characters that I would love to play around with, like Annihilus, who I love,” Gunn continued. “I think they own Kang … there’s some great characters over there that we don’t own and that sucks. I’m sure Marvel and I would love to own Fantastic Four so I wouldn’t have to convince anybody. That’s just not the way it works.“
