Couples on The Vampire Diaries may come and go, but fans, it seems, will always have a soft spot for Klaus Mikaelsson (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola). The good news is, showrunner Julie Plec is right there with you.

Speaking to EW Radio, the showrunner explained that contrary to popular belief, she loves Klaroline, but unfortunately, getting together isn’t in the cards for the pair in the immediate future.

“Not to say that in the lifetime of both shows maybe there’s not an opportunity,” said Plec. “But it definitely is not happening right now.”

So…you’re telling us there’s a chance?!

It’s clear that Caroline and Klaus are busy enough with everything that’s going on — her in Mystic Falls with her fellow vamps, and him in New Orleans with The Originals — but we’d still love to see these two cross paths again at some point.

In a blog post written by the showrunner on EW.com earlier this year, Plec teased that she’s been toying with the idea of having some Vampire Diaries characters make the jump over to The Originals whenever the series comes to an end.

“If and when TVD ends, it would be fun to see some of our favorites from Mystic Falls find their way to NOLA,” said Plec.

If that scenario ever comes into play, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Caroline at the top of Plec’s list of characters to shift over to the Big Easy. We can only imagine how that move would shake things up for the Mikaelsons!

The Vampire Diaries airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on The CW
