Vanessa Hudgens is heading to NBC to battle superheroes… with paperwork!
The Grease Live actress will star in NBC’s upcoming DC Comics superhero workplace comedy series, Powerless. Created by Ben Queen (A to Z), Deadline reports that Hudgens will portray Emily Locke, a “spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes.”
During the pilot episode, Hudgens’ character becomes a cult hero when she stands up to one of these superheros — DC’s Crimson Fox — after an epic battle interrupts her morning commute. While navigating her normal everyday life against the chaotic backdrop of superhero mayhem, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.
Hudgens will be joined by a group of “lovably quirky” co-workers played by Alan Tudyk (Suburgatory), Danny Pudi (Community), and Christina Kirk (A to Z). Pudi will portray Emily’s best friend Teddy; Tudyk nabbed the role of Del, the new manager at the company; and Kirk will play Jackie, Emily’s assistant.
Powerless is the first comedy series set in the DC Comics universe and will air during the 2016-2017 fall television season.
