13 Things We Learned About Aly & AJ’s New Music From Their Twitter Q&A

Former Disney Channel stars and forever sisters, Aly and AJ Michalka are back on the music scene!

The duo hosted a Twitter Q&A on Sunday (May 15), and when the time came for them to answer questions about their new music, they did not disappoint.

Fans were asked to tweet their questions to the official Aly & AJ Twitter account (@alyandaj) with the hashtag #alyandajareback and by the amount of fan participation and the great answers given, it’s clear that the singing sensations are truly are back.

The Cow Belles stars’ last released music under the name Aly & AJ with their 2007 album, Insomniatic. Then, in 2009, the girls reemerged and started teasing music under the new band name 78Violet. It wasn’t until 2013, however, that 78Violet actually released their first single “Hothouse,” an indie track that was accompanied by a stunning music video. While the rest of their indie album was finished and set to be released as only a few songs on an EP, and then later all the songs as a full album, that never happened. In 2014, the unreleased 78Violet album found its way onto the internet, and now lives there for fans to appreciate.

And that was the end of music from them…until now. The singers changed their Twitter handle from @78violet back to @alyandaj at the end of 2015 and just announced that they are back writing songs and are ready to release more music under the original name that made them famous. It’s a new era of Aly & AJ and we are so here for it.

Here are 13 things we learned during their Twitter Q&A:

1. They’re focusing on new music, not covers, and will be writing from personal experiences.

2. They will definitely be releasing as Aly & AJ, not 78Violet.

3. They had a good reason for switching their name back.

4. They can’t wait to start touring again.

5. They plan on releasing new music this year.

6. They’re trying to release the new album under a record label instead of releasing it themselves.

7. Their favorite Aly & AJ song from the beginning of their career is “Closure.”

8. They want Stephen Ringer (AKA Aly’s husband!) to direct “pretty much everything” they do.

9. They will be keeping their 78Violet song “Boy” for their new album.

10. They will be writing songs in between Aly filming “iZombie” in Vancouver and AJ filming “Goldbergs” in LA.

11. They will be setting up an Aly & AJ Vevo page once they release a new video.

12. The sound of their new music is being described as “Indie pop.”

13. They want fans to be a part of the whole process.

Bonus: Their new movie Weepah Way For Now (their third film together!) will be out June 17.
