With current James Bond Daniel Craig hinting he may be ready to leave the franchise, actors including Idris Elba, Damian Lewis, and Tom Hiddleston have all been rumored to be in contention for the coveted part of 007. Fans, however, are gravitating toward a different possibility entirely.
After the hashtag #NextBond surfaced on Twitter earlier this week, many fans suggested it may be time for a female Bond — with both Quantico’s Priyanka Chopra and The X-Files Gillian Anderson suggested as potential candidates for the role. For their part, the actresses seem fully on board with the idea.
“It’s Bond. Jane Bond. Thanks for all the votes,” Anderson wrote on Saturday (May 21) along with a mocked-up poster of herself portraying Bond. “(And sorry, don’t know who made poster but I love it!) #NextBond.”
Meanwhile, during an interview with Complex for the mag’s upcoming cover story, Chopra said she doesn’t just want to play a Bond girl — she wants to actually play Bond. The actress later elaborated on the comments on Twitter.
“Haha.Doubt the world is ready for a female Bond..But thank u @The_SummerMan n congrats!Glad to b ur first cover girl,” wrote Chopra in response to a tweet from Complex mag’s social editor, who tagged her in a tweet with the hashtag “#NextBond.”
What do you think? Who would you like to see as the next James Bond?
