Ellen Pompeo Just Made A Big Decision About Her Future On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

No medical emergency here! Ellen Pompeo is returning to Grey’s Anatomy for the show’s upcoming thirteenth season!

ABC’s long-running medical drama will continue to follow the life and romantic complications of Dr. Meredith Grey. According to Deadline, a rep for the actress confirmed that Pompeo has closed a new deal to return to the series. The announcement means that Grey’s fans can finally relax as the popular ABC series can for once celebrate a cast member staying as opposed to the recent flurry of exits.

Last season, fan favorite Patrick Dempsey memorably left the series, followed Meredith’s on-screen bestie Sandra Oh, and most recently Sara Ramirez. Dempsey and Oh had both been with the series since the very beginning, while Ramirez joined in season 2.

While Ramirez decided to check out of Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital at the end of the season 12 finale, the rest of the cast, including Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., and Kevin McKidd, are reportedly expected to renew their contracts, which expire this month.

Grey’s Anatomy will continue to lead off ABC’s block of Thursday night programming when the show returns this fall. Grey’s will be followed by the new Piper Perabo/Daniel Sunjata drama Notorious and a new season of How to Get Away with Murder, respectively.

What do you think? Would you have watched Grey’s Anatomy without Ellen Pompeo?
