After series star Dylan O’Brien was hospitalized due to injuries suffered on set back in March, FOX announced that it planned to push the release date of Maze Runner: The Death Cure back to February 17, 2017. Now, the production company has decided to push the film back even further.
According to EW, The Death Cure is now looking at a tentative theatrical release of Jan. 12, 2018.
Following O’Brien’s accident, Maze Runner author James Dasher took to his Twitter to let fans know that the team had decided to postpone filming in order to give the actor time to recover. Soon after, FOX announced that it had decided to shut down production indefinitely for the time being.
Despite settling on a new release date, FOX has yet to reveal when the cast and crew of Maze Runner: The Death Cure are expected to start filming again.
As much as we’d love to have the third installment of the Maze Runner series hit the big screen sooner rather than later, we’re happy to wait as long as it means Dylan O’Brien makes a full recovery!
