Aca-bummer! Pitch Perfect fans are going to have to wait just a little while longer before the third installment of the franchise arrives in theaters.
While the film is currently in the pre-production stage, Universal Pictures announced on Monday (May 31) that the premiere date has been moved from July 21, 2017 to December 22, 2017. This is just another in a series of moves for writer Kay Cannon’s musical comedy as the film was originally scheduled for a July 21, 2017 release before being rescheduled for an August 4, 2017 opening before once again reverting back to July 21.
This is no way to treat the Barden Bellas.
To fill the Pitch Perfect-sized hole on their schedule, Variety reports that Universal’s Girl Trip, a female-centric comedy starring Regina Hall, will now open on July 21, as opposed to its original release date of August 11.
While the plot details behind Pitch Perfect 3 remain a mystery, we know that Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks will be back behind the camera and that stars Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld, and the aforementioned Banks will reprise their roles in the film.
Back in January, Adam DeVine told People’s Choice that producers had reached out to ask him to return for the third film.
“They’ve asked if I would be willing and I’m like, ‘Probably— just ask me though!’” DeVine told People’s Choice. “I just want to feel like a pretty girl at prom, you know? I want to be invited to the dance, for Pete’s sake!”
Pitch Perfect 3 will now hit theaters on December 22, 2017. Are you looking forward to the next movie?
