With her latest single “Something New” and a high-profile role in Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster Spider-Man: Homecoming, Zendaya‘s stardom continues to ascend to new heights. Now, the 19-year-old star of The Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover is opening up about one of her biggest career moves.
Gracing the cover of the July issue of Cosmopolitan, the singer/actress opened up to the mag about why she decided to return to The Disney Channel after wrapping up a three-year stint on the network with Shake It Up. As it turns out, the young artist seems to have a solid understanding of Spider-Man’s catchphrase “with great power comes great responsibility,” and it was the pursuit of that power that brought Zendaya back to The Disney Channel to star as K.C. Cooper on K.C. Undercover.
“The only way I was going to come back to the Disney Channel was if I was in a position of more power,” Zendaya told Cosmo. “One thing that is really important to me is diversity on the channel. It’s hard as a young person of a different ethnicity or background to look at the TV and not see anyone who looks like you. Representation is very important.”
Zendaya not only stars on the Disney Channel series, but she also serves as a co-producer, so we’d say she got her wish!
