These TV Shows Get Binge-Watched The Fastest On Netflix

Nevermind which show you’re going to binge-watch next, what about which show you’re going to binge-watch the fastest? On Wednesday (June 8), Netflix revealed some data that provides exactly that answer. The streaming site released a report breaking down which series get consumed most quickly by its customers, and the results may surprise you.

The internal study of 100 serialized TV shows across more than 190 countries found that shows in the thriller, horror, and sci-fi categories are more likely to be binge-watched faster than programs from other genres. Netflix unveiled a Binge Scale to illustrate which shows we savor and which shows we devour.

When members are focused on finishing a series, they’ll “devour” a show and watch for a little over two hours a day in order to complete a season. Some of Netflix’s most devoured shows are thrillers like Breaking Bad and Dexter, as well as horror programs like Walking Dead and American Horror Story.

“As The Binge Scale indicates, the viewing experience of a series can range from the emotional to the thought-provoking,” said Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland. “Netflix helps you to find a series to binge no matter your mood or occasion, and the freedom to watch that series at your own pace whether that’s to appreciate the drama of Bloodline or power through Orange is the New Black.”

Sci-fi shows and action & adventure series — including programs like Arrow, The 100, Outlander, and Heroes — also fall closer to the “devour” end of the scale.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Binge Scale suggests viewers tend to take time to “savor” irreverent comedies, political dramas, and historical dramas, so programs like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Wet Hot American Summer, House of Cards, and The Americans are generally viewed in smaller doses. Take a look at the chart below to see how it all breaks down:
