‘Moana’ Trailer Gives Fans First Look At Disney’s New Polynesian Princess

Prepare to meet Moana, Disney’s very first Polynesian princess!

Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), Moana follows the journey of an adventurous teenager (Moana, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) who sets sails on a daring mission to locate a fabled island and save her people.

Who’s the one person you’d want riding whatever the nautical equivalent to shotgun is with you as you journey into the open ocean on an epic adventure? You guessed it: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! The actor portrays the once-mighty Maui, who accompanies Moana on the sea as he guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder and discover her own identity.

The recently released trailer focuses on introducing Maui, who amusingly explains how he battled monsters, slowed down the sun, and pulled islands out of the sea to a rather bemused Moana.

Adding to the film’s allure is the fact that the movie features songs and music from Opetaia Foa’I, Mark Mancina, and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who just last night took home the Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Musical.

Also featuring the voices of Alan Tudyk and Phillipa Soo, Moana arrives in theaters on November 23, 2016.
