It may be common for music industry pals to collaborate on music, but Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato took their camaraderie to new (and some might say, awkward!) heights when Jonas helped Lovato write a breakup song about his brother Joe.
Nick and Demi recently appeared on CBS’ The Late Show to promote their forthcoming Future Now Tour, and the conversation turned to the duo’s long-lasting friendship. After Nick divulged that he met Demi when she auditioned for a role on the Disney Channel Original Series Jonas, Lovato revealed that Nick helped her write “Gonna Get Caught,” a song about her breakup with Joe Jonas that appeared on her debut album Don’t Forget.
“Oh my God it was so funny. I was a little burned at a tender age of fifteen. What do you do? You write a song about it, right?” Lovato told Colbert. “So I was writing my first album and I was writing a song called ‘Gonna Get Caught,’ and he was in the room we were all writing together, and he was like, ‘Well maybe it has a happy ending, ya know?’ And I was like, ‘No! I think he gets caught and everybody sees he’s a heartbreaker.’ And Nick’s like, ‘You know, why don’t we just write the chorus?'”
Colbert had the perfect response to Lovato’s amazing anecdote: awkward. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Watch the entire story below!
