Zootopia could have easily been a much darker kids movie than expected. This recently released deleted scene proves it.

As it turns out, con artist fox Nick Wilde, played by Jason Bateman, was supposed to be the film’s main character, not bunny cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin).

The new scene, which was first discovered by i09, and clearly comes from the film’s preliminary stages, shows Nick and Judy escaping being tied up. There’s no context as to why the twosome was tied up, but they soon stumble into a “taming party” where a baby bear named Morris is receiving his shock collar. When Morris gets too excited, the collar shocks him for the first time and things go to a dark place. Pretty intense for a kids’ movie. Check it out.

It’s easy to see why the scene was ultimately cut from the movie — we can’t imagine young kids would have reacted well to seeing an adorable bear getting shocked.

Starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Shakira and more, Disney’s Zootopia tells the story of a city of animals who live life quite contently considering they’re in a warped animal kingdom. With predator and prey living docile lives together, Judy Hopps  and Nick Wilde team up to uncover a conspiracy going on under their paws.
