It’s official! Disney is developing a Wreck-It Ralph sequel!
Franchise star John C. Reilly joined original Wreck-It Ralph scribes Rich Moore and Phil Johnston to announce via Facebook Live that a follow-up to the 2012 animated hit is in the works. Reilly, who will return to voice eponymous video game villain/hero Wreck-It Ralph, teased the plot of Ralph’s next adventure.
“It’s top secret, but I’ll tell you this much… Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the internet,” Reilly revealed during the announcement. “What could go wrong?”
The first film, which went on to gross over $470 million at the box office, followed Reilly’s Ralph, a video game villain who sets out to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero. While details concerning the sequel remain scarce, Disney tweeted out a photo of the concept art featuring Ralph and his sidekick Vanellope triumphantly posing in front of a digital world.
The original writing team will also be back behind the camera as Moore, who directed the first film as well as the recent hit Zootopia, will co-direct with Johnston.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 9, 2018.
