Here’s What The Young Stars Of ‘Harriet The Spy’ Are Up To Today

There’s no shortage of kid detectives in pop culture, but one of our all time favorites will always be Harriet M. Welsch.

Harriet the Spy hit theaters in 1996 and introduced us to Harriet’s colorful world of characters, which she wrote about in her trusty notebook. The people Harriet wrote about ranged from her best friends Sport and Janie, to her arch nemesis Marion. Then of course, there was Harriet’s confidant and nanny, Ole Golly, who was the only person who knew Harriet was secretly a spy.

We’ve definitely got some fond memories of popping this one into the old VHS player and so, to celebrate, we’re taking a look at where some of our favorite Harriet the Spy actors are today. Check out what some of the child stars of the film are doing now that they’re all grown up!

Michelle Trachtenberg (Harriet)

Harriet the Spy marked Michelle Trachtenberg’s first time starring in a major motion picture and since then, the actress has done quite well for herself. Trachtenberg has gone on to star in a slew of movies including Inspector Gadget, Ice Princess, and 17 Again. Additionally, she’s had recurring roles in some big name television series including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Gossip Girl. Up next, fans can catch her starring opposite Troian Bellisario, Stana Katic, and Amy Smart in the drama, Sister Cities.

Gregory Smith/Sport

Smith followed up his role in Harriet the Spy by starring in another cult classic that ’90s kids are bound to know and love: Disney Channel’s beloved Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century. Since then, Smith has had a lasting acting career, landing roles in The Patriot, Kids in America, and The WB’s Everwood. Most recently, Smith starred in the crime drama, Rookie Blue, where he played a young cop named Dov Epstein.

Vanessa Lee Chester/Janie Gibbs

Since her days playing scientist as Harriet’s other bestie, Janie, Chester has gone on to take smaller roles in films such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park and 17 Again. The actress has also had a slew of guest starring roles on television series such as The West Wing, Veronica Mars, How I Met Your Mother, and Switched At Birth.

Charlotte Sullivan/Marion Hawthorne

Like many of her fellow Harriet the Spy cohorts, Sullivan has kept pretty busy over the years. The actress has been featured in television series such as Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, The Famous Jett Jackson, and M.V.P. Like Smith, Sullivan also starred on the 2015 TV series, Rookie Blue, where she played Gail Peck. Most recently, she appeared on the television series, Saving Hope.

Dov Tiefenbach/The Boy With Purple Socks

The Boy With Purple Socks may have been a mystery to Harriet, but one thing that isn’t so mysterious is the whereabouts of the actor who played him. Since wrapping on Harriet the Spy, Tiefenbch has gone on to appear in television series such as Goosebumps, Animorphs, Tilt, and Billable Hours. On the movie front, the actor has also appeared in Tommy Boy, The Mighty, and Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.
