His name is Elba. Idris Elba. And he has shaken not stirred the internet by saying that he believes he’s too old to be the next James Bond.

Tom Hiddleston, Aidan Turner, Jamie Bell, James Norton, Priyanka Chopra… the list of stars who’ve expressed their interest in portraying the next James Bond goes on and on. But Elba, who you can currently see in Star Trek Beyond, has often been thought of as the fans’ choice to take on the highly sought-after role of 007. During a recent appearance on Good Morning America, however, the talented actor may have finally ended the speculation that he’ll be the next James Bond.

“I think I’m too old for that,” the 43-year-old actor said. “Running around in cars and ladies and martinis, who wants to do that? Sounds terrible.”

From his critically lauded work on The Wire to his starring role on Luther, Elba’s theatrical credentials are beyond reproach, but the star went on to reveal that there haven’t been any official talks between him and studio about taking over the iconic role.

“I keep saying if it were to happen it would be the will of a nation because there haven’t been any talks between me and the studio about any of that,” Elba continued. “But everywhere I go people want that to happen.”
