With her biting wit, dry humor and Miranda Priestly-like toughness, Calista Flockhart’s character, Cat Grant, became a standout on Supergirl season one. Now, comes word that Kara’s boss will be back for more bossing around in season 2. Though this time around, she won’t be in the office as much.
Entertainment Weekly reports that though Flockhart will be returning to the super series next season, it’ll only be as a recurring guest star.
The reason for Flockhart’s on camera scale back is all about logistics. The actress was a series regular when the show first premiered on CBS last fall. At the time, Supergirl was filmed in Los Angeles. Now that it’s been picked up by The CW however, production is shifting to Vancouver, and since Flockhart is mainly based in LA, she can only appear on a limited basis. In other words, expect to hear that Grant is away on assignment or vacation much more often.
“Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement following the announcement, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”
Season 2 of Supergirl makes its CW debut on October 2 at 8 p.m. EST.
