Prepare to shake off some disappointment, Swifties. Taylor Swift won’t be releasing a new album this October.
With four out of five of Swift’s previous albums dropping in October and the singer’s habit of releasing new music every two years, fans couldn’t help but speculate that the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2014’s 1989 was headed for a surprise October 2016 release.
Scott Borchetta, president and CEO of Taylor’s label, Big Machine Records, took to that giant internet megaphone known as Twitter to definitively quash any and all rumors about a potential Taylor Swift album dropping this fall.
Responding to a now-deleted tweet from a user who reportedly asked Borchetta to “settle” a rumor that the musical maestro is planning an October release, Borchetta simply responded with an all capitals, no nonsense NOPE.
“This is the first time in ten years that I haven’t known,” Swift said. “I just decided that after the past year, with all of the unbelievable things that happened. . . I decided I was going to live my life a little bit without the pressure on myself to create something.”
While no new tracks from Swift are imminent, there are a few October releases fans can get excited about. “Leave (Get Out)” singer JoJo is releasing a new album, Mad Love, on October 14, and Beck’s forthcoming thirteenth studio album will drop on October 21.
