MTV found their VMA Vanguard Award-winner in a rather hopeful place.
Along with her four MTV Video Music Award nominations, Rihanna will be this year’s recipient of the Video Vanguard Award at MTV’s annual celebration of music videos. The prestigious award is typically presented to an artist as a way to honor their body of work. Kanye West was presented with the distinction in 2015, while Beyonce and Justin Timberlake were honored in 2014 and 2013, respectively.
Past winners include Britney Spears, U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Janet Jackson.
“Honored to take the #VMAs stage as your video #VANGUARD award recipient LIVE from NYC on August 28,” Rihanna tweeted.
Earlier this year, the “Work” singer released her eight studio album, Anti, and embarked on an accompanying world tour in March to promote the EP. The singer has also recently made headlines by nabbing a few high profile acting roles.
Not only will Rihanna play Psycho character Marion Crane in the fifth and final season of A&E’s Bates Motel, but she will also join Sandra Bullock, Mindy Kaling, and Anne Hathaway in the upcoming all-female offshoot of Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Ocho.
