It looks like we’ll be getting a Zombieland sequel after all!
Screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese may have shifted their attention over to Deadpool for a bit, but that doesn’t mean they’ve closed the door on more Zombieland. In fact, the scribes recently revealed they’re hard at work on a sequel to the 2009 survival flick starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin.
Wernick and Reese revealed the good news during an interview with Kevin Smith and Greg Grunberg on AMC’s Geeking Out.
“That is breaking news that we’re on Zombieland 2 right now,” said the screenwriters according to ComicBook.com. “We’re sitting with Woody [Harrelson] tomorrow and are going to sort of walk him through some of the stuff we want to do. All the cast is pretty excited.”
The first film comes to a close on an open ended cliffhanger with Columbus (Eisenberg), Tallahassee (Harrelson), Wichita (Stone), and Little Rock (Breslin) come to the realization that they’ve become a little makeshift family. After an epic zombie showdown in an abandoned amusement park, we see the foursome riding off into the sunset in search of a new place to call home before the film cuts to black.
Given that we never discovered what become of the four, it’ll definitely be interesting to see what Wernick and Rhett come up with for the sequel. It’ll also be great to see the Zombieland cast team up for another epic adventure!
